Granada is much more than Alhambra. Granada is also gastronomy and every visitor is obliged to taste the tapas and enjoy the best local dishes.

Tortilla de Sacromonte is one of those tapas that you can find in any bar or tavern in Granada. This omelette is made of chorizo, peas, potatoes, bell pepper and Trevélez ham. Precisely, this iberian ham, for its quality and its flavor, enriches other dishes such as beans with ham.

The gastronomy of Granada is so varied that it does not matter what your culinary preferences are. While the moraga de sardinas is the best option for fish lovers, those who prefer meat will be surprised by the flavor of the choto al ajillo, which combines kid meat, garlic, peppers and wine. On the other hand, vegetarians will not be able to resist the Arabic recipe of eggplant with cane honey.

Following with the best dishes of the Granada gastronomy, some tapas are only prepared on certain days of the year.

The olla de San Antón is traditional on January 17th and consist on a bean stew prepared with rib, tail, bacon and other products from the pig slaughter. The tortas de la Virgen, which are an oval cake filled with spaghetti squash preserve, sugar and cinnamon, is prepared on the last Sunday of September, when the day of the Virgen de las Angustias is celebrated. And when the summer heat arrives, it’s time to eat the remojón granadino, an Arab salad with orange, olives, egg, onion and cod.

And if after that you go for tapas in Granada and still miss something sweet, do not forget to ask for piononos of Santa Fe and soplillos de la Alpujarra.

Navas and Elvira streets, the Albaicín neighborhood or the Cathedral area are just some of the most popular places to taste tapas in Granada. Thanks to the tourist train of Granada City Tour you can make a stop on your way before continuing with the visit.
