Iglesia de El Salvador
This church was built on the site of the old Grand Mosque of the Albaicín district. The Ablutions Courtyard, the remains of some columns and a very deep cistern still exist. The cloister was used to hang up the sambenitos (traditional garments of public shame) worn by the moriscos in penitence imposed upon them by the Inquisition, that previously used to be in the Cathedral. The temple houses artistic treasures such as the painting of the ‘Holy Supper’ by Bocanegra.
